Neuromuscular Case Vignettes

Case 10: first EMG study

Sensory nerve conduction studies are normal. Right ulnar motor amplitude significantlt diminished compared to that of the left side. There is no conduction blocks. Needle study shows rather acute denervation in bilateral cervical myotomes . Note presence of fibrillations and positive waves with reduced/discrete motor unit recruitment, but lack of large, neurogenic units represent acute denervation. Fasciculations were noted in bilateral FDI. Denervation was not present in the thoracic or lumbar myotomes. Cranial muscles were not tested as they were not clinically affected.
